What if all could speak with one voice?

12/12/08 07:48 pm - Oh yea, There She Is Step 5 is out!

Go to sambakza.net and look for the link at the top of the page that says amalloc when you hover the mouse icon over it.

Or wait for another week and look for it on Newgrounds.

If you aren't familiar with the There She Is animations, shame on you. No cookie until you go check them out.

Then so many cookies . . . oh, the cookies that there will be.

12/12/08 11:30 am - Back to creepy fanboy shit

Spoilers for the Kannagi Manga - if you care, don't read further, I'm not going to LJ-Cut this (too much work)

Oh my.

I have mentioned that out of the fall season's anime fansubs, I have taken to watching the shows Toradora!, To Aru Majutsu no Index, and Kannagi, right?

The Kannagi anime is great, full of metahumor that breaks the 4th wall (the director was the one who was sacked for "a lack of professionalism and experience" after directing 4 episodes of the anime Lucky Star, and he has made many jokes in this show about it), and to me is quite funny. ANN has been reporting about the Manga running in Japan, and the fact that it was put on Hiatus following the publishing of the January installment (at the beginning of December). It turns out that the manga-ka was sick. HOwever, there were rumors that the reason for the manga being put on hold was due to a fan-controversy over something that had been revealed in the December installment (Published in November, I guess?)

It seems that this series/show is very popular among the Otaku culture in Japan, and I had read rumors of people going batshit insane over this - even an unsubstantiated rumor that one fan had destroyed all of his merchandise over it.

I kept seeing the fact that there was a controversy over and over again, but no one went into what the hell had been so controversial. I finally just broke down and googled it. 3rd site I went to finally said what had gone down.

Apparently the title character, Nagi-sama, had a boyfriend in the past and may not be a virgin. Here is a blog post that goes into it in more detail

. . .

What. The. Fuck.

So, the hatemail flowed freely to the manga-ka after this revelation, spawning the rumor that she had put it on Hiatus because of the backlash.

>_< This is an aspect of the Japanese Otaku Culture that I just don't get.

. . . What? You don't care?

So go read something else!

Edit: This just gets creepier and creepier, really. The sorts of language that are being used to describe the character now is just, beyond disturbing. Used Goods. And apparently the fans have been betrayed, led astray by a girl who is not "pure". That is sexism at it's worst, really, and a terrible way to look at anyone, regardless of whether they are 2D or 3D. Girls don't owe you anything, and calling them horrible names because they have a life of their own that doesn't meet your virgin-worshiping expectations is just ... well it says something about you, really.

. . . Jesus christ, I'm talking about a fictional character. >_< But the reaction is real, and the reaction is . . . well, what else can I say, it's creepy.

. . . What? You STILL don't care?

W-what the hell are you still doing here, then?! Jeez, i-it's not like I appreciate your readership or anything!

(for some reason I couldn't help making a Tsundere joke here. Don't know why)

12/8/08 07:36 am - The Simpsons are Real People!

A judge in Australia has just ruled that the Simpsons are real people. They have the same rights under the law as real people. They can vote and have credit cards. This may be a little overboard. I'm still pissed though.

An Australian judge just found a man guilty of possessing child porn based on an internet animation he had on his computer of Simpsons characters (I have to assume Lisa or Bart, or maybe the two of them together) having sex. He wasn't jailed though. Just fined $3,000 australian. >_<

I hope to fucking god that this litigation is overturned. I don't think that the US can use foreign rulings in their own lawmaking, but that doesn't stop my paranoia.

It's frustrating to think that common sense has been so eroded that you can take an obviously fictitious individual or individuals (how can you say that the Simpsons even look more than roughly human?) and suddenly make the statement that they are afforded the same rights as a real person. Hell, I've seen simpsons porn "cartoons", and not only are they seriously not erotic, they are never particularly well animated. Unless the man had 10,000 simpsons porn images, and got seriously aroused at jaundiced children, RAGERAGERAGERAGE!!!!!

I'm done. Please note that my frustration stands on record.

10/15/08 02:44 am - Super Short Reviews: Oban Star Racers (episodes 1-26)

I liked it.

10/9/08 03:37 am - Row Row, Fight the Powah!

Okay, so I bought "Volume 3" of Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann this evening, and started watching it at 11 pm. I ended up watching all 9 episodes in a ROW ROW FIGHT THE POWAH! Wups, sorry.

I don't think it's healthy to be exposed to that much win in such a short amount of time.

The final fight had two robots the size of galaxies standing ON a galaxy as a battlefield, and also throwing GALAXIES at each other. Do I make myself clear on this? THEY WERE PITCHING FUCKING GALAXIES AT EACH OTHER!

I'm not quite satisfied by the absolute ending, and I was a little sad when that one character died. I'm a sucker for happy endings, but that one was bittersweet at best. But still true to the characters, which I can also appreciate.

Anyway, I'm late on the bandwagon due to the fact that I missed the fansub run of Gurren Lagann, but now that I have watched it all the way through, I can see why it is so popular, and I am ON the ma'fukin BUS! Which is DRILLING THROUGH TIME AND SPACE AND INTO THE HEAVENS!!1!

Definitely might be . . . WAIT! It just occurred to me that there is a movie coming out! Unless it is a re-telling of the story, That could be pretty cool!

Anyway, hazardous to health, etc etc. I need to get some sleep now, I have work in 12 hours and some housework to do before that.

9/26/08 03:44 am - Kimagure Orange Road

I finally buckled down and read the manga version of KOR. Scanslated, of course, but a better quality of scanslation than I am used to.

It made me want to watch the last two episodes and the first movie again.

Cut for spoilers and fairly uninteresting conversation about 80s mangaCollapse )

9/20/08 11:10 pm - Toonami

I haven't consistently watched Toonami for years, but I have fond memories of it from waaay back.

I don't think I was watching it at the VERY beginning, but goddamn if I wasn't there from pretty close. I remember watching Voltron and Robotech on toonami, and GODDAMN if "Midnight Run" wasn't the Bees Knees. Some really great memories over the years, that is for sure.

Final broadcast tonight. It's been fun over the years.

An icon just passed.

I'm not sad, but I am suffused with nostalgia.

9/20/08 02:44 pm - Uggh, oh god!

I worked a PM/Sleep shift on Thursday (3:30pm thursday - 7:30AM Friday), and then had to come back for a PM shift on friday afternoon (3:30pm - 10:30pm) to supervise a new hire's shadow shift (she was running the show here, I was just there to make sure everything went smoothly), when we discovered that a girl who trained over the summer had turned in her resignation on thursday. She had also not taken the time to get the few shifts she had signed up for at the beginning of the month filled by other people. So, I had to stay and do the Sleep shift as well. And right now, I'm doing the Saturday morning AM shift (7:30AM-3:30pm). And I have to do another PM shift tomorrow (Sunday). I find that I don't sleep very well at the Apartment, so I am really freaking tired right now. >_<

The worst part is that because of how our weeks run (Saturday-Friday), I can't legitimately try to get off work tomorrow (we're not allowed to do overtime unless something freaky happens) since the cut off on Friday leaves me with 32 hours worked, while the shift that I just worked legitimately pushes me to 40 hours worked over three days. It just doesn't work that way on paper. >_< DAMNIT!

On the plus side, next week I only work sleep shifts. I'm down with that. Still, I'm really tired right now.

:sigh: at least the shift is over in a half hour. And then RPM on The LION 90.7fm! You know the drill with that by now, right? If you're in the state college area, 90.7 on the FM dial. If you aren't, you can still listen by going to TheLion.FM, the main website, and either downloading a small file or just listening on the website proper. It's a glorious little applet. Lots of fun.

7-9 pm!

9/17/08 03:05 pm - The Waldo Ultimatum

It helps if you're familiar with the Bourne movies when you watch this, but still.

Oh man, I haven't laughed this hard in a while. I know it's supposed to be serious, but the entire product is so ludicrous that I just can't help myself.

Although I think that was the point.

9/15/08 07:49 am - I am very, VERY amused!

The City of Sakai (In Osaka, Japan) has, in it's library system, a collection of Boys Love manga 5,499 strong, that cost $34,000. 0_0

I read that, and very nearly burst out laughing. Apparently, it was due to Library patron requests that this came about. XD
